Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

Hi! My name is Francesca Galeon, I am 20 years old, and Asian American! I was born in the Philippines and moved to the US when I was 5 years old.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

Before I moved here to Massachusetts, I lived in CO. There I was signed with Wilhelmina Denver for 6 years! I’ve done commercials, short films, and modeling work since 6th grade.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to inspire other Filipinos/Asian Americans that they can make it in the entertainment industry despite what the media says about beauty standards! I hope I can do so through my work.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To be your own kind of beautiful is to be undeniably true to yourself. As cliché as it sounds, it’s very true. Growing up as an Asian American that was surrounded by Eurocentric beauty standards, it was very hard to accept myself. Along with the racist remarks I’d deal with on a daily basis and the assumptions of what an “Asian” should look like. But recognizing what makes you unique from all the others & owning it is already beautiful in itself.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I like to call my fashion style 90s chic with a touch of what’s in right now! But I also like to be comfortable as well because no one looks fashionable without feeling confident & comfortable in their own skin/clothes.

Who or what inspires you?

Opening minds & doors for not only my fellow Asian Americans but everyone one as well is what inspires me to do what I do. Dance, sing, act, the list goes on! I want people to realize that putting people in a box according to what they look like or where they’re from is not right.

What is your advice to someone who just getting started with modeling?

My advice for someone who just started modeling is to never compare yourself to other models & find beauty in your unique features that makes you, you! It’s easy to get lost in the jealousy but once you own your look, you will definitely stand out from the crowd.

Describe some obstacles you overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

Being a Filipina was very hard for me growing up. Not just the fact that I’m asian but because of my skin color as well. It’s hard knowing that if I wasn’t considered beautiful here in the US, I wasn’t in the Philippines as well because I’m too dark, short, etc. Thankfully I realized how ridiculous it was to base my worth on strangers when it really was up to me, and I know I’m beautiful inside & out.

What make you beautiful/handsome?

To be beautiful is not just your looks. Especially in this industry it may look like that but looks can only go so far! I know what makes me beautiful is my big heart. I tend to always see the best in people & try my best to help if they’re ever struggling with anything. Being truly beautiful is to always be kind to everyone no matter who they are. You never know how your words & actions will impact someone!

What would you say to another guy/girl your age who is struggling with their confidence?

If you’re struggling with your confidence, honestly same. Progress is never linear but what matters is you try. Small progress is better than no progress. Try baby steps by finding the beauty within your individuality and eventually confidence will be second nature to you!
