Tell us about yourself

Hi! My name is Sydney M, I’m 22 years old and I live in Austin, Texas. I love working out, traveling, spending time with my friends and family, being with my dog, going to coffee shops, all that fun stuff.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

My modeling experience up to this point is pretty simple. I have a local photographer here in Austin, Texas I do work with every now and then which really helps me get experience and gain confidence. We’ve even done a couple shoots with several photographers and other models in downtown Dallas, and downtown Austin, which was a lot of fun and a great experience overall.

What is your biggest dream?

Honestly, I’m not really sure where to start. There is a lot I hope to accomplish in my life. I would love to have a super successful modeling career as well as travel the world. Another goal of mine is to get back into riding horses and maybe one day fulfill the dream I had as a kid of going to the Olympics. I’d also love to have my own company one day. What that will be, I’m not sure yet, but it’s definitely something I’d like to do. I also want to show others that you can do anything you set your mind to, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To me, being your own kind of beautiful is just being who you are. Beauty is not all about how you look but how you act and how you treat others. I think being kind, genuine, authentic, welcoming, as well as knowing what you want and don’t want without apology, make a person beautiful.

How would you describe your fashion style?

My style is all over the place. One day I’m wearing boho style clothing and pretending I live at the beach. The next I’m dressing sporty. I also love basics and am currently working on building more of a capsule wardrobe. My go to these days is casual and comfortable, but I do love an excuse to dress up and look cute.

Who or what inspires you?

Not to be cliche, but my dad inspires me. He failed English twice in high school, dropped out of college as an English major, and now he writes for a living and is starting his own company. This inspires me because it shows you don’t have to take the traditional path in order to be successful. You really can do what you love if you set your mind to it, and are willing to not give up even after failure. My dad has always told me to find something I love to do and go after it.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

Don’t try to change yourself into something you’re not, whether it’s physically or mentally. There are a lot of people who will try to change the way you look or the way you act, but I think it’s important to stay true to yourself and know what is meant to be will always find you. I think it’s also important to not compare yourself to others. You are beautiful and talented in your own way.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

Growing up I moved a lot. I’ve lived in 13 houses across 3 states and 5 cities. In each city I had to make new friends and deal with new cultures. However, I learned how to adapt to change. I got to see different parts of the country, and now I look forward to moving because I get to decorate a new room every couple years.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

If we’re talking surface level, I think my eyebrows and my hair make me beautiful. My whole life I’ve been told I look like a young Brooke Shields and Cindy Crawford, mainly because of my brows. On a deeper level, I think the way I care for the people I love most in my life makes me beautiful. When I care for people I care very deeply and genuinely want the best for them.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Would you talk to your best friend or younger self the way you talk to yourself now? The answer is probably no. You’re most likely not going to talk down to someone you love, so why would you talk down to yourself? Confidence is a mindset, and once you flip the switch you’ll really see how everything around you changes in a positive way. One thing that really helps me is repeating positive affirmations daily.
