Tell us about yourself (where are you from, age, whatever you want to add)

My name is Marisol, you just roll the “r” or call me Mawdi! I am from Salt Lake City, UT and I am 25 years old. I have lived in Minneapolis MN and recently moved to St Petersburg FL. I love to stay fit and active you can find me in the gym, yoga or in a dance class. On my free time I enjoy painting, reading and binge watching Netflix shows. I also love to travel and find lots of joy learning about new cultures, people and food.

What is your biggest dream?

This is a hard one to pin down for me, I’ve always considered myself a jack of all trades and don’t necessarily stick to only one thing but ultimately the goal is to become a designer. I’m a creative at heart with a very imaginative mind I want to do and create things that bring those ideas to life. Whether it’s designing things from clothing to accessories or designing homes and infrastructures.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

Being your own kind of beautiful is learning to embrace everything that makes you, you. Owning all of your perfections/flaws and walking with your head high. You’re confident and you help others see the beauty within themselves as well.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I am very athletic and live an active lifestyle so default is sporty but I also lean to chic and artsy staple pieces. Also can’t go wrong with accessorizing! Rings, earrings purses and shoes can take any outfit to the next level.

Who or what inspires you?

No matter what direction I find myself heading in life my inspiration remains the same, my mom and dad. They adopted me as an infant and they’re both first generation immigrants. They will always inspire me to achieve and go the extra mile to be where I aim to be. My mother raised us to be resilient and headstrong, staying focused on what needs to get done. While my dad was on the sideline of all sports events blowing his own whistle.. pushing us to the finish line and never letting us give up. I do it all for them, I do it for the Makoni family.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

Embrace everything that makes you unique. Use your uniqueness to your advantage, stick out from the crowd and norms. Breakthrough the molds and don’t ever compare yourself to other models. Also don’t limit yourself, try everything and be willing to get out of your comfort zone.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life that has changed or shaped you.

I have had my battles with anxiety, depression and mental health. Several years ago I finally decided to seek professional help and I wouldn’t be the woman I am, had I not gone through those trials. It’s a matter of taking things step by step and only focusing on that next step. Today I stand tall, confident and determined to only reach my highest potential while also being not only an advocate for those struggling themselves but a friend. The sun always comes up every morning

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

As a little girl and all through growing up I was always told I had a heart of gold. I have carried that with me my whole life and I think that’s what makes me beautiful. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I am a shoulder and rock for anyone who needs one. What also makes me beautiful is my ability to see myself for who I am, accepting myself and loving myself. I will always be my authentic self.

What would you say to another guy/girl your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Another persons beauty is not the absence of your own. I think lack of confidence comes from always comparing ourselves to others and not seeing what we have to offer. Write yourself notes, set yourself reminders with uplifting messages. Practice building a good relationship with the person you see when you look in a mirror and once you get to know that person, you’ll realize just how much power you hold.
