Hi! My name is Jocelyn Melendrez, I was born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico and I am currently attending New Mexico State University. I was a cheerleader for 10 years but it is still one of my hobbies although I am not on a team. I like weightlifting, working out and competing in pageants, which is my newest but new favorite hobby. I also enjoy modeling and my favorite sport to watch is baseball. My goal is to pursue a career as a Surgical Technician.
Tell us about your modeling experience.
I have been modeling for a little less than a year and I have modeled for a few clothing stores in and near my hometown. I recently walked in my first big fashion show for Archie Brown Designs in New York Fashion Week in February of 2022.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to become a full time model and also pursue a career in the medical field.
What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?
Being your own kind of beautiful to me means, being yourself and embracing who you are inside and out.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style as comfortable and outgoing. When it comes to fashion I am never afraid to try new things but I always love a comfortable and cute outfit.
Who or what inspires you?
The person that inspires me the most is my mom because of how hardworking she is and how well she has overcome all the adversity she has faced in her life.
What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?
My advice would be to be confident in yourself and always give yourself credit for all the accomplishments you achieve, even the very smallest ones.
Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.
Dealing with anxiety ever since I was a young girl has always been an obstacle I have been able to overcome and conquer. I feel that facing anxiety has shaped me into the strong confident young woman I am today because of the adversity I faced. I have gained so much confidence in myself and it has allowed me to accomplish so much more that I thought I would never be able to do.
What makes you beautiful/handsome?
I think what makes me beautiful is the way that I love to care for others. I love helping other people because it brings me so much joy.
What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?
To any young adults my age that are struggling with their confidence, I would tell them that they are beautiful in their own way and they can do anything they set their mind to no matter what anyone says.
As long as you have a good heart you are beautiful inside and out.
