Tell us about yourself

Hi, my name is R’Kayla! I’m 22 years old and I’m from Miami, Florida. I recently graduated from college in the spring of 2023, with a bachelor’s in organizational psychology with a minor in communications. I’m currently a full-time employee who on my days off I love to hang out with my friends. Growing up starting from the age of 3 I danced ballet, tap and hip hop. While also playing the piano and modeling.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I started modeling at the age of four for the very first time, and although the memory as a child is very faint, I remember modeling for European brands and as I got older, I walked runway shows. Which for me was something so big and different but made me very excited because it showed that I had potential to exceed in something so big. As I left modeling in high school, I found my passion for it again, and hopefully in the future I get to walk in fashion shows.

What is your biggest dream?

Although my biggest goal in life is to exceed in everything that I do. My biggest dream is to also walk in NYFW, PFW, LFW, and MFW. In addition, I like to do campaigns for big companies, like Gucci, Prada, and Marc Jacob’s.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To be beautiful in your own skin means to do whatever and look however you want no matter what anybody thinks of you or even who they want you to be. Loving all your imperfections whether it’s your body, hair, weight and or skin. While remembering to always be true to yourself.

How would you describe your fashion style?

I feel like I personally have a lot of different fashion styles. It just depends on the day that I wake up and how I feel. I’m someone that is very adventurous when it comes to trying clothing and makeup, I always like to try things that I thought I’d never try.

Who or what inspires you?

Besides family, my drive for always wanting more in life whether it comes from school or work I always want to be the best. Growing up my parents never stop me from wanting to pick up different hobbies, but always supported me in everything that I did.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

There are many things I would say to someone that start modeling, but one thing I can definitely think of that is important is to always remember who you are as a person and be confident in your own skin. Remember that you can model no matter your weight, shape, or size. Don’t overthink it, and always try to learn different techniques, on how you can always improve.

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

One of the biggest obstacles that I’ve overcome in my life is becoming the First generation Haitian American. It taught me a lot about hard work and dedication,  like if I always put my head towards doing something that I can always accomplish everything that I have set for myself.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

I am beautiful because I’m confident, kindness, authentic, and I am me. Knowing that no one can replace me.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Coming from someone who wants struggled with confidence at early age just always know that we are created to have our very own features that no one can replicate. Doesn’t matter if someone tries to make you feel any different about yourself or makes you try to change something about yourself. You should only ever think about whether it makes you happy or comfortable. Remember to be confident on what you have and what you stand for.
