Tell us about yourself

My name is Kerin, I’m 22 years old I was born and raised on Long Island in New York. I recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in literature and a minor in chemistry. I enjoy writing and have been published in the Applause literary journal.

Tell us about your modeling experience.

My modeling experience has unfolded serendipitously. It all began with a few close friends of mine who are aspiring photographers. Together we would discover new locations, collaborate on aesthetic pinterest boards, play around with different cameras, source interesting fashion pieces, and even create playlists that were cohesive with our vision. Over time, the process of creating became a source of joy and fulfillment for me. Then through social media, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to connect with other photographers. I have been working on expanding and diversifying my portfolio ever since.

What is your biggest dream?

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve dreamt of walking for New York Fashion week.

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

In my heart “being your own kind of beautiful” translates to allowing yourself to experience your own truth. Being your own kind of beautiful is to meet yourself and others with gratitude and curiosity. It is to treat yourself with enough reverence to quiet that little inhibitory voice of self doubt inside your head. Beauty is less of an aesthetic concept than it is an allowance of authenticity.

How would you describe your fashion style?

My personal fashion style is centered around timeless pieces that make me feel elegant. I am drawn to classic silhouettes and well made clothing.

Who or what inspires you?

My Nana Mac inspires me most. She is the most vibrant, magnetic, kind, hilarious, and strongest person I’ve ever known. My Nana has taught me that “we only get one life” and that no matter what happens, a good laugh with the people you love can always heal you.

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

My advice to aspiring models would be to experiment! Modeling is all about being an artistic medium for a vision. Some art is meticulously designed and planned for, some is entirely spontaneous or unexpected. Have some reliable poses in your repertoire, but don’t be afraid to try something new!

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

When I was 18 I moved to Tampa all by myself for college. I hadn’t known anyone in the entire state of Florida, nearly all my family and friends stayed back in New York. I built myself a completely new life in Florida all on my own and it proved to be the best decision I've ever made. Starting over in a completely new place has taught me that I have tenacity and the capability to achieve whatever I set my mind to.

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

What makes me beautiful is my authenticity and compassion.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

To anyone struggling with confidence I would try to help them with their perspective. I believe that confidence and perspective are deeply intertwined. Oftentimes, we are one positive reframing away from spinning a painful thought into an inspiring one.
