Tell us about yourself

My name is Sydney Shay. I am 13 years old and I live in Jonesboro, Arkansas. I am 1/4 Korean and my favorite Korean food is bulgogi.  I have been an Allstar competitive cheerleader for 7 years. I also cheer for my school. We do sideline for football and basketball games as well as perform and compete during the school year. I have done some local theater acting and enjoy being on the stage. I love to perform whether that is on a stage, mat or in front of a camera!

Tell us about your modeling experience.

I am a beginner model. I love photo shoots in studio or on location. I like to dress up and have fun! I think modeling brings both of those things together for me.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be the best version of myself. I hope everyday that I can be a positive person in someone’s life. I also would love to continue the things I love doing and that is being on a stage!

What does it mean to be your own kind of beautiful?

To me, it means that you are beautiful in your own way. We are all different, and besides the identical twins out there, we all look different. Whether that be your style or any of your other features, not one person is the same kind of beautiful! Just because your own kind of beautiful is not like someone else’s doesn’t mean it is any less beautiful!

How would you describe your fashion style?

I would say it’s a sporty style since I’m usually going from one practice to another! But I do like to dress in Boho when I’m not in athletic wear.

Who or what inspires you?

Both of my parents inspire me to be the best I can be every single day! They are both very loving and supportive and just want to help me succeed in whatever makes me happy!

What is your advice to someone who is just getting started with modeling?

Since I am a beginner as well, I would share things that I am learning.  Modeling isn’t just about your look.  Your confidence shines brighter so remember that someone chose you for the job and it’s your turn to shine for them! I would also encourage them to make sure to find an agency that cares about them and their success. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We all start somewhere!

Describe some obstacles you have overcome in your life and how that has changed or shaped you.

As a cheerleader I have had quite a few obstacles come my way in the cheer world whether it be injuries or mental issues, but one obstacle stuck out more than the others. I am a perfectionist. I still am not sure if that is a good or bad thing but it got in the way of me learning new skills. Eventually it started effecting my old ones too. Some to the point where I got too scared to do them anymore. Finally with the help of loving friends and family I learned that it is okay to not get it 100% right all the time. As long as I kept improving it didn’t always have to be perfect, because no one is. This not only helped me in the cheer world but also helped me put that knowledge into use outside of cheer. It has helped me with school and other activities I love to do!

What makes you beautiful/handsome?

What makes me beautiful is my personality. I hope that when people meet me they can see the true me and that beautiful comes from the inside.

What would you say to another girl/guy your age who is struggling with their confidence?

Try not to listen to all the opinions around you especially if they are hateful. You should always hold your head high and remember who you are. I know it is easier said than done, but you were born to be you, so don’t compare yourself to others and remember that you are unique in your own way.
